Cookie Policy

Our website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our website. This helps us to provide you with a good experience when you browse our website and also allows us to improve our site. By continuing to browse the site, you are agreeing to our use of cookies.

We use cookies to create the most secure and effective website possible for our customers. Among other things, cookies allow you to log on to our website as a member, choose 'Add to Favourites' or 'Remember my shopping basket’ at the BASKET page.

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how we use them and what benefits they bring. As you may be aware, recent legislation requires websites to gain visitors' consent to use certain cookies (further details can be found at The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) website: http://www.ico.gov.uk/news/blog/2012/updated-ico-advice-guidance-e-privacy-directive-eu-cookie-law.aspx ).

What are cookies?

A cookie consists of information sent by a web server to a web browser, and stored by the browser. The information is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. This enables the web server to identify and track the web browser. Cookie is small text file that is sent to and stored on your computer, Smartphone or other device for accessing the internet, whenever you visit a website. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise a user's device. More information about cookies can be found on www.allaboutcookies.org.

Which cookie do we use?

We use the following cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website. They include, for example, cookies that enable you to log into secure areas of our website, use a shopping cart or make use of e-billing services.
  • Analytical/performance cookies. They allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily.
  • Functionality cookies. These are used to recognise you when you return to our website. This enables us to personalise our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region).
  • Targeting cookies. These cookies record your visit to our website, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We will use this information to make our website and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose.

How we use your information

We use both "session" cookies and "persistent" cookies on our website. We use the session cookies to: keep track of you whilst you navigate the website; and to monitor user behaviour for statistical and marketing purposes. We will use the persistent cookies to: enable our website to recognise you when you visit. Session cookies will be deleted from your computer when you close your browser. Persistent cookies will remain stored on your computer until deleted, or until they reach a specified expiry date.

PHPSESSID - Contains a PHP "session ID", expires when the browser is closed
The "PHPSESSID" cookie is required so that the site can recognise the same user clicking from page to page. Without it, every page would be treated as the first visit to the site, and anything added to the shopping basket would be instantly forgotten. Online shopping would, therefore, be impossible.

Session - Contains a PHP "session ID", can also contain an email address and encrypted password, expires after one year
The "session" cookie is intended for the user's convenience, our website creates this with a copy of the initial session ID so that they can be classed as "returning" and the contents of their shopping basket will still be available. If the user signs in with an email address and password, these login details are are also saved so that they can remain logged in when returning (the password is encrypted). If the user signs out, their login details are removed from the cookie.

We may use technology (traffic log cookies: e.g. Google Analytics) to track the patterns of behaviour of visitors to our site: collect and store information about your visit on an anonymous, aggregate basis. This information may include the time and length of your visit, the pages you look at on our sites, and the site you visited just before coming to ours. We may also record the name of your Internet service provider, browser type, and IP address. We use this information to measure site activity, to develop ideas for improving our site(s). However we cannot and would not use this data to identify individuals personally.
Opt-out of Google Analytics cookies.

When someone visits www.kerolhardware.co.uk , we collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. We collect this information in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting either of our website. We will not associate any data gathered from this site with any personally identifying information from any source. If we do want to collect personally identifiable information through our website, we will be up front about this. We will make it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it.

How you can manage your cookies

The browsers of most computers, Smartphones and other web-enabled devices are typically set up to accept cookies.
